How GST is worked out

GST added: GST = taxable value × rate ÷ 100, and the total is the taxable value plus GST. ₹1,000 at 18% is ₹180 of GST and ₹1,180 in all.

GST included: taxable value = amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST is the rest. ₹1,180 including 18% is ₹1,000 taxable and ₹180 of GST.

Within a state GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (UTGST in a union territory); between states it is all IGST. Amounts are rounded to the paisa, and an odd paisa goes to CGST.

In SimplyERP each bill line’s GST comes from its item’s rate and the party’s state. See how a sale bill is made.
